Bridezilla’s Packaging – Art Director & Illustration

Women’s Entertainment’s #1 show needed a new show packaging for their anticipated 5th season. Mr. Wonderful wanted to create a stylish cartoon that would touch on of the stereo typical dramas of a wedding through a short whimsical parody.

When conceptualizing this story we figured that the Bride should be center stage at all times with all the action happening around her. With that in mind I designed this initial frames almost as though it was a stage and she was literally on a pedestal. The backgrounds color would change depending on her mood, just as a plays lighting would in a real production. The simple geometric style gave Bridezillas a fun feel, and allowed the team to move quickly when a revsion was needed.

I wanted the main bride to be beautiful but still have an edge to lose it when things weren’t going her way. I designed to doves were her little helpers throughout the spot (after all ever witch needs her familiars… kidding) and they also became helpful bringing “on and off” lower thirds and transitions.

Hey giiiiiiirl.

Not everyone was invited to the wedding.

Here were the thumbnails Beirne Lowery and I collaborated on to get the story and pacing initially.

One of the many things I love about Mr. Wonderful is their encouragement to draw everything out. This project was ridiculously fun to work on and its still one of my favorites.
The random keywords with unreadable small cascading paragraphs pushes the “gmunk” feel over the edge. I was lead designer on this fun and flexible project.

Starbucks Grassroot Movement – Animator

Starbucks needed an exciting and supportive promo before inauguration day for Barack Obama. So Lifelong Friendship Society jumped right on that hope train and hired a small army of animators to knock out Travis Spanglers retro illustrations and type. MC Yogi’s rap leads the timing of this “see & say” piece that calls all coffee drinkers to “join hands” and pledge 5 hours of community service for a tall brew.

I was brought on by LFS to help animate and design the shot list in co-ordinance with the lyrics. The palette was set, and a slew of elements and type were designed. The verses of the song and their assets were divided among the animators. In the end I got the opportunity to design a few elements aswell, (from the heart to the hot air balloon). This project took a couple days off my life but was well worth it in the end.

Xerox wanted to flex their new logo with an iconic end tag.

Xerox Endtag Designs – Designer & Animator

Xerox wanted to flex their new logo with an iconic end tag for all of their campaigns for years to come. The goal was to expand their brand presence from the office copy room to a household name, pushing the public’s awareness of their various products other than copy machines. Xerox provided several playful new icons and wanted to explore the imagery of “connection lines” into the new logo.

These first boards I thought to design playful, using the provided assets. Although, what I didn’t take into consideration was that Xerox no longer wanted to be known as a copy machine.

In this next set of boards I designed the “connection lines” wrapping around the new pill shaped logo. I wanted to keep the environment clean and modern with interesting reflections and hard cuts. The idea was not to have the logo build on, but rather show it as if it had always existed, catching it in a moment. Unfortunately, these boards didn’t make the cut.

Click here to view the embedded video.

This was the approved endtag. Sometimes the client wants the simplest of things and we as motion designers over think a project. Better to explore simple first and then build, (at least for this project). In the end there was time put in to multiple versions and eventually it was approved. Perseverance pays!
It’s a quick narrative reminding us that one thing is connected to another.

I was assigned to animate Travis Spangler’s illustrations for this piece. He had polygonal creatures, a soft colorful palette, and a brief script of how they would interact with each other. I broke them up, labled the parts, rigged the pieces, and made a couple keyframes. Fun and simple. This was the first time I had worked with LFS, but not the last. Thier team has hyper creative minds, great attitudes, and are a riot to hang with in and out of the office.
